I think that's an important goal, but I haven't heard any realistic proposals to stop it, and hope is not a strategy. The "missing middle" initiative of the planning department is going to make things worse, with the only winners being developers who are eager to have the backing of city government to buy small houses, knock them down, and build high(er) end duplexes. Their argument starts out about affordable housing, but ends up amounting to, "we have a lot of people moving here from Boston and San Francisco, and they may want an array of choices instead of just an apartment downtown. They may want to have a yard. Having duplexes where houses currently are located would help more people have yards."Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
